On Human Weakness
Dr Pravin Thevathasan
James
Martin has said that the teaching of the Catholic Church on homosexual
acts has not been "received" by the LGBT community (19 June, 2017, America
Magazine). It could also be said that the teaching of the Church on
contraception has not been received. Not so long ago, the condemnation of
slavery by the Catholic Church was not received.
The Church is really aware of our human weakness. Christ has given us the sacrament of confession. And we should note that the teaching of our Holy Mother the Church is not and was never, based upon opinion polls, majority votes, or what Society perceives at a particular point in time.
Just because many if not most people struggle with the teachings of the Church does not make those teachings wrong.
