Lazarus, Come Forth
Dr Pravin Thevathasan
I
have recently been reading a very weird book. You really have to be
"differently ordered" to take it seriously. It implies that there is some
kind of unnatural affection between Lazarus and Jesus because the Gospel
of John says that Jesus "loved" Lazarus. But the same Gospel also tells us
that Jesus "loved" Mary and Martha. Where does that take us?
The story of Lazarus is about charity, about reaching out to our neighbours in distress and healing them.
But, above all else, the story of Lazarus presents us with a very human Christ who is divine.
